Massive US Naval Armada Heads For Iran
Operation Brimstone ended only one week ago. This was the joint US/UK/French naval war games in the Atlantic Ocean preparing for a naval blockade of Iran and the likely resulting war in the Persian Gulf area. The massive war games included a US Navy supercarrier battle group, an US Navy expeditionary carrier battle group, a Royal Navy carrier battle group, a French nuclear hunter-killer submarine plus a large number of US Navy cruisers, destroyers and frigates playing the "enemy force".

The lead American ship in these war games, the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN71) and its Carrier Strike Group Two (CCSG-2) are now headed towards Iran along with the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN76) and its Carrier Strike Group Seven (CCSG-7) coming from Japan.

They are joining two existing USN battle groups in the Gulf area: the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN72) with its Carrier Strike Group Nine (CCSG-9); and the USS Peleliu (LHA-5) with its expeditionary strike group.

Likely also under way towards the Persian Gulf is the USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) and its expeditionary strike group, the UK Royal Navy HMS Ark Royal (R07) carrier battle group, assorted French naval assets including the nuclear hunter-killer submarine Amethyste and French Naval Rafale fighter jets on-board the USS Theodore Roosevelt. These ships took part in the just completed Operation Brimstone.

The build up of naval forces in the Gulf will be one of the largest multi-national naval armadas since the First and Second Gulf Wars. The intent is to create a US/EU naval blockade (which is an Act of War under international law) around Iran (with supporting air and land elements) to prevent the shipment of benzene and certain other refined oil products headed to Iranian ports. Iran has limited domestic oil refining capacity and imports 40% of its benzene. Cutting off benzene and other key products would cripple the Iranian economy. The neo-cons are counting on such a blockade launching a war with Iran.

The USS Iwo Jima and USS Peleliu Expeditionary Strike Groups have USMC Harrier jump jets and an assortment of assault and attack helicopters. The Expeditionary Strike Groups have powerful USMC Expeditionary Units with amphibious armor and ground forces trained for operating in shallow waters and in seizures of land assets, such as Qeshm Island (a 50 mile long island off of Bandar Abbas in the Gulf of Hormuz and headquarters of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps).

The large and very advanced nature of the US Naval warships is not only directed at Iran. There is a great fear that Russia and China may oppose the naval and air/land blockade of Iran. If Russian and perhaps Chinese naval warships escort commercial tankers to Iran in violation of the blockade it could be the most dangerous at-sea confrontation since the Cuban Missile Crisis. The US and allied Navies, by front loading a Naval blockade force with very powerful guided missile warships and strike carriers is attempting to have a force so powerful that Russia and China will not be tempted to mess with. This is a most serious game of military brinkmanship with major nuclear armed powers that have profound objections to the neo-con grand strategy and to western control of all of the Middle East's oil supply.

The Russian Navy this spring sent a major battle fleet into the Mediterranean headed by the modern aircraft carrier the Admiral Kuznetsov and the flagship of its Black Sea Fleet, the Guided Missile Heavy Cruiser Moskva. This powerful fleet has at least 11 surface ships and unknown numbers of subs and can use the Russian naval facility at Syria's Tartous port for resupply. The Admiral Kuznetsov carries approximately 47 warplanes and 10 helicopters. The warplanes are mostly the powerful Su-33, a naval version (with mid-air refueling capability) of the Su-27 family. While the Su-33 is a very powerful warplane it lacks the power of the stealth USAF F-22. However, the Russians insist that they have developed a plasma based system that allows them to stealth any aircraft and a recent incident where Russian fighters were able to appear unannounced over a US Navy carrier battle group tends to confirm their claims. The Su-33 can be armed with the 3M82 Moskit sea-skimming missile (NATO code name SS-N-22 Sunburn) and the even more powerful P-800 Oniks (also named Yakhonts; NATO code name SS-N-26 Onyx). Both missiles are designed to kill US Navy supercarriers by getting past the cruiser/destroyer screen and the USN point-defense Phalanx system by using high supersonic speeds and violent end maneuvers. Russian subs currently use the underwater rocket VA-111 Shkval (Squall), which is fired from standard 533mm torpedo tubes and reaches a speed of 360kph (230mph) underwater. There is no effective countermeasures to this system and no western counterpart.

A strategic diversion has been created for Russia. The Republic of Georgia, with US backing, is actively preparing for war on South Ossetia. The South Ossetia capital has been shelled and a large Georgian tank force has been heading towards the border. Russia has stated that it will not sit by and allow the Georgians to attack South Ossetia. The Russians are great chess players and this game may not turn out so well for the neo-cons. UPDATE 8 August 2008 ~ War has broken out between Georgia and South Ossetia. At least 10 Russian troops have been killed and 30 wounded and 2 Russian fighter jets downed. American Marines, a thousand of them, have recently been in Georgia training the Georgian military forces. Several European nations stopped Bush and others from allowing Georgia into NATO. Russia is moving a large military force with armor towards the area. This could get bad, and remember it is just a strategic diversion....but one that could have horrific effects. ADDITIONAL UPDATE ~ Georgia calls for US help; Russian Air Force bombs Georgian air bases. DEBKA, the Israeli strategy and military site, states that Israeli military officers are advising the Georgian armed forces in combat operations and that 1,000 Israelis are in-combat on the side of Georgia at this time.

Kuwait has activated its "Emergency War Plan" as it and other Gulf nations prepare for the likelihood of a major regional war in the Middle East involving weapons of mass destruction.

The two-ton elephant in the living room of the neo-con strategy is the advanced biowar (ABW) that Iran, and to a lessor extent Syria, has. This places the motherlands of the major neo-con nations (America, France, the United Kingdom), as well as Israel, in grave danger. When the Soviet Union fell the Iranians hired as many out-of-work former Soviet advanced biowar experts as possible. In the last 15 or so years they have helped to develop a truly world class ABW program utilizing recombination DNA genetic engineering technology to create a large number of man made killer viruses. This form of weapon system does not require high tech military delivery systems. The viruses are sub-microscopic and once seeded in a population use the population itself as vectors. Seeding can be done without notice in shopping malls, churches, and other public places. The only real defense to an advanced global strategic biowar attack is to lock down the population as rapidly as possible and let those infected die off.

Unless the public gets it act together and forces the neo-cons to stop the march to yet another war in the Middle East we are apt to see a truly horrific nightmare unfold in OUR COUNTRIES.

The response of average people all over the world in emailing this article to friends and posting it on blogs and web sites everywhere is totally amazing. It is a real happening that I don't think has ever happened to this extent before. People, please start demanding of your elected leaders in Parliament/Congress that they oppose what is happening. The world is sliding into war as the war leaders hide behind the main stream media's attention focused on the Olympics. Demand that your local newspapers, television and radio stations begin giving real coverage to what is happening in Russia/Georgia and the Middle East. Do something while you still can.

Deer Moss Diaries or Deer Lichen Blog

On 2007-10-6 at the St. Joseph Bay Buffer and Aquatic Preserve Center, Florida, Rosalyn Kilcollins said that what we used to commonly call "deer moss" is now called "powder puff lichen". We saw none on the walk near the Preserves Center. On the same day at the St. Joseph Bay Preserve Deal Tract, Seth Blitch told me that the yellow forms of deer lichen are new growth of the powder puff lichen. Along the trail to the water, there are rich patches of the lichens. I saw the largest yellowish patch ever, a rectangle about 1.5' x 2.5'. The mosquitos and rain prevented me taking a photo. Is that the question? If the answer is to blog, then should I keep up this one? Or go for the Google-account, pyra-owned, new blogger? Or make my own? Of course I should make my own, since pyra can change the terms of the account at any time including dropping it or charging money for usage. However, I don't yet do database publishing so I don't have archiving or comments. So the question becomes ....

To database or not to archive? Answer is clear; archiving must happen but hasn't happened yet.

Significant developments:

Video the Vote turned me into producer of a documentary,
a mysterious slow down in web delivery of large files caused me to turn to Google Video, YouTube, MySpace and even the Weather Underground,
with nothing to publish one week, out came a lone photo of a dead duck.
In honor of the publication of the Feminists Who Changed America 1963-1975, which I'm in, I updated the Wholeo Dome and Phyllis Birkby page.

I was late for Video the Vote. I did the work on election day, November 7, but didn't submit the video to videothevote.org until today. First I worried about a hum that I could not affect with any filter. That took a couple of days until I realized the hum was not significant on most computer speakers. Coincidently I converted to widescreen format (16:9 proportion) which required some study for processing and presentation.

Coming from a fine art perspective, I have forgotten earlier journalistic discipline and wanted to make the movie as tight and telling as possible. My newbie editing skills in Final Cut Pro did not make this quick. Finally a test file would not download from my server at any reasonable speed. That caused days' of delay. Today the speeds seem back to normal. I can't get a clear answer or picture of what went wrong. So there's no guarantee of speedy downloads. I did a page of text and graphics with the main points made in the movie.

However, the experience of being involved in a developing story on election day and communicating that story in video is great. I tend to dwell in such generalized, abstract, and unseen worlds that are so far from this down-to-earth reality. It was good for me, a refreshing breather.

Phase 3 of the Color Healing Generator has two new nodes and an EIE layout, called EIE Circular. It was inspired by visions that came while honoring the Arcturus UV event on October 17-18.

In my Art section, I've published some art by old friends. I especially like to do this if I see they don't have much of a web presence. A year ago I received email about a painting by Carol Hoorn Fraser. The owner told the story of the purchase in 1956. Via email, I helped the owner get a decent picture of the painting that I could prepare for web publication. Finally on October 19 I made "Spring Girl" public. It was previously unknown to the CHF estate, so I provided images to John Fraser.

Finished the movie, "Manifest Evolution". All that's left to do is the description of what the visions mean to me. You are welcome to your own interpretation.

Up to version 5.1.1, I had been creating movies in Final Cut Studio Pro. Upgrading to version 5.1.2 stopped that short. At least it won't work with my current movies. It might be fine for new work. That's why I finished Manifest Evolution in Adobe Flash. There are no QuickTime versions.

The Daily Show with Jon Stuart did a fine piece on Net Neutrality with the PC guy. See it on YouTube. Besides being funny, it presents the issue simply, cutting through the hype that coorporations have used all too effectively to cloud lawmakers' minds.

QuickTime 7.1.3 breaks Flash tracks

QuickTime 7.1.3 disables embedded QT Flash tracks by default. Previous versions enabled QT Flash tracks by default. You need to "Enable Flash" in QuickTime settings to see and hear some of my movies correctly.

I am putting warnings on the affected pages. Until that process is complete, you have no way to know. Please read the announcement and decide what to do.

Have you ever noticed the control you have over movies leads to deeper involvement and appreciation of the images? I enjoy stopping the movie and going back and forth through time with the arrows on my keyboard. A screen shot captures a frame. I like movies that have many such moments. Sometimes you can't see the best frame, hidden in fast movement. One such moment is in "Manifest Evolution" between the river and the bottle in the glass. Wholeo's Virtual Residency migration project, Manifest Evolution is taking forever to complete. The vision acts happened during three days in mid-2006, from July 9-11. There are notes, sketches, photos, and memories from that time. I quickly published the storyboard. Since then I've been working on the movie of the event for entry to an art show. I know there are many downsides to presenting a work-in-progress. But I feel that each week I bring the record to a state that is worth seeing, so I publish it on wholeo.net.

As a technical writer I would often send out manuals in various stages of completion. I wanted feedback. But it was hard for some people to deal with the rough material. They couldn't imagine the completion. If you are one of those who need smooth finished products, skip all these entries until I'm done.

Mastering new resources takes time too. A new Apple Cinema HD display let's me see lots more stuff on the computer screens, the better to synergize. New wireless Internet connections let me wander around with my iBook, untethered. New Final Cut Studio software provides tools to make movies, motion, soundtracks, and DVDs, not to mention the seven heavy how-to-do-it books to read. I'm trying new ways to present movies including Adobe Macromedia Flash 8, iPod, and h.264. There are so many choices, all affecting quality. So much to learn, explore, and do leaves no time for polishing or finishing. This is a time of rough cuts.

So if you are in for a Wholeo wilderness trip, follow weekly installations of Manifest Evolution.

The Heart Fountain animation is a vision that is part of the Virtual Residency project (an online entry to an art show). See it as-is or as a design for a working fountain in colored glass and pumped water.

This is an issue close to my heart. Actually, it is the most important issue. If we can't communicate freely, how can we save the world? Allen Boyd represents me in the US House of Representatives. his website addresses these current issues: Memorial Day, Protect Our Coasts, Veterans, Healthcare, Offshore Drilling, and Rural America. The menu has these topics: Agriculture, Armed Forces, Budget, Education, Election Reform, homeland Security, Iraq, Medicare, and Veterans. I see no mention of Net Neutrality, the Internet, or Telecommunications. When I called his office on June 8, I was told that he hasn't announced a position on the COPE telecommunications law and is still taking public input. We urge a NO vote if it doesn't include Rep. Ed Markey's Net Neutrality Amendment. Later I learn he has voted YES along with other house members. I'm enraged at his position. Now our only hope is that Senators understand the importance of stopping this legislation.

For weeks now, I've been mostly offline, publishing old artworks. Same for today, a drawing pastel and ink, done in Monte Rio, California in 1979, called Parmenides Atomic Radiation Yoga. here's a detail from the center of the drawing.

Added a small watercolor painting called "SoulScape of Caroling", by Melva Blick, 1981. The text explains the deep intention of the psychic artwork, which is upon contemplation to illuminate my life path.

Caroling is busy with family, so there might be breaks in publishing for the next few months.

The exact time of the March equinox is marked in vision and photograph with an interactive QuickTime VR movie called Between sundial and Xtals: intent. For photos and links, see the introduction, where you can choose a movie. There are three choices: 5MB, 2MB, and 500KB, that is, large, medium, and small. The medium movie enters a twilight zone of color.

If you have broadband Internet, fine. If you are on a slow connection, all the movies are large, so download them while you take a break of five minutes or more. There is a Macromedia Flash animation superimposed on the 360-degree panoramic photograph of a sundial in Natchez Park, Seaside, Florida. If you can't see the movies, click the link for screen shots, for some views of the content. It is about a time, place, theme, and visions, including dreamwork. The theme is "Borders" because this is an entry to the World Wide Panorama event for March, 2006, which opens on April 1. See links to all Wholeo Online entries to the WWP in the introduction. The Xtals in the visions are not mineral crystals, they are etherial psychic additions to aura.

Created Elobeing Traces to EIE all, including all the previous four clips in the series, updated plus credits, shown here.

The words possibility, perception, language, action, and consciousness are the keys to the evolutionary aspects of Traces, expressed in voice, feelie sensors, background graphics, elemental traces, and EIE. I say the Elobeing is evolving from Gaia beings, to include human and all other beings.

Added a photo report of a Move On candlelight meeting" under the title "Consitutional Vigil: Witness to Lawbreaking", protesting illegal wiretapping and unchecked presidential power.

Last week added A Healing Dream dreamwork, which was first published in WomanSpirit magazine, Summer Solstice, 1978.

Activist by necessity, for the Internet, a lake, and vestiges of visions.
Keep our super-highway open and free, just like our bridges, streets, and sidewalks. A good place to start is with this article on the Center for Digital Democracy site, http://www.democraticmedia.org/issues/JCnetneutrality.html. Then click the link to "Free Press: Internet Freedom Under Fire: Act Now", which has a secure connection to submit a letter to congresspeople expressing your concerns. Our concerns. I believe this concerns all of us.

Another topic closer to my home is work to preserve a rare coastal dune lake. I'm helping the Eastern Lake Neighborhood Association with a web presence. I'll have links when we get it together.

The vision continues the series of movies, Macromedia Flash 8 animations really, about Elobeing elements as traces. In this third offering, traces begin forming banners. The post on 19 January 2006 introduces the series.

Contining the mission to help people upgrade to Flash 8 and be able to see the wonders of its movies, I added a screening screen to the beginning of the movie. It doesn't blindly detect. It asks if you can see triangles, which are only visible with the 8 plug-in. If not, I suggest that you upgrade.

Back up. Stop. Reconsider. I needed a new strategy to help people see Macromedia Flash 8+ movies. My new movies use beautiful drawing features of Flash version 8. Older Flash plug-ins play the movies without the new colors and shapes, so they look like ghostly caricatures of themselves. But the user doesn't know. Flash detection is to write the page code to try to trap non-8 users. Flash detection fails if it doesn't cover all possibilities and will fail over time as it becomes outdated. The only sure way is for you, the user to compare content. I ask if the movie contains colors and shapes like a sample. I put this page up front, here, as an introduction to the series of Elobeing element traces. I plan to embed this test within the movies themselves.

It is sad that some people can't get the plug-in, although it is free and easy to install. For example, my public library. It doesn't enable librarians to do this simple task. It hires an outside consultant, who apparently does not respond to user requests and doesn't see the value inherent in upgrading software that comes installed on the new computer. My choice is for the long run. In a few years, this content will be fully supported, and even ancient history.

The Visions poster is for a class held almost 30 years ago. "Come, have, and record visions", was the call. They came and did -- here are eight student works. I was amazed, delighted, inspired, and deeply encouraged that given a focused context, the intention to envision is so fruitful.
