December Solstice 2010 Sunrise and Sunset panorama, QT Full

On December 18, 2010, a day-long silent meditation retreat honored the solstice on December 21 at 5:28 p.m. CDT. I photographed sunrise and sunset from a local high point on the nearby days. Previously at the March equinox, June solstice, and September equinox I did the same from the same location. It is the beach end of the boardwalk across Deer Lake State Park from the parking lot. Alternatives: QuickTime small or Flash small or full-screen.

Day and night are at their greatest difference on a solstice. This is true for both the northern and southern hemispheres of earth. Local sunrise at approximately 6:35 a.m. Local sunset at approximately 4:47 p.m.
