Mountain Goats

WholeoOnline Leo Memorial Art Photos Journals

This poem and two quotes come from a notebook that Leo kept in Utah. He lived there from 1985-1987.

             MOUNTAINGOATS
           MOUNTAIN GOATS

SKIPPING, DIPPING, DROPPING
LEAPING
Q U I C K L Y

          M O U N T A I N GO ATS
       MOUNTAIN GOATS

MASTERS OF THE VERTICAL
       WORLD   OF   ROCK ;
SCATTERING SCATOLOGICAL JOKES
MORE SINCERELY THAN HUMANS,
CHIDING EACH OTHER UP, UP.

             MOUNTAIN GOATS

THEIR SIMPLE WORLD OF
     ROCK, WATER, ICE.
          I LOOK UP.

             MOUNTAIN GOATS

From Aldous Huxley's Downward Transcendence: "Beer does more than Milton can to justify God's ways to man."

-Blake: "If the doors of Perception were cleansed, all would appear as it is, infinite and holy". Credit: Mountain Goats © Leo Geary 1987, 1999
